The Wife of the Ebonyi Governor, Mrs. Mary-Maudline Nwifuru, has settled medical bills totaling N3.2 million for 16 indigent patients at Alex Ekweme Federal University Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki.
Nwifuru paid the bills on Friday during a visit to the male and female surgical wards to mark the Easter celebration.
She encouraged patients, who had been held back by the hospital due to unpaid bills, to remain hopeful and pray for God’s help.
The initiative is part of her ongoing efforts to provide financial relief to indigent patients facing economic hardship in the state.
Dr. Sorochi Otu, Head of Department, Medical Social Work at the hospital, commended Nwifuru for her continued philanthropy.
The governor’s wife also paid bills for indigent patients at the Rehabilitation Programme EFFATA, Ugbodo, and provided financial support to the Trinitarian Foundation for Orphans and Helpless and the Juvenile Remand Home during her Easter visits.
Mr. Onyibe Nwiboko, Director of EFFATA, and Rev. Sis. Mary-Agnes Onyejiechi, head of the foundation, expressed gratitude for her visit and generosity.
Mr. Emmanuel Nkwuda, Head of Department, Child Development, Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, lauded her for reconstructing the remand home.
