Mr Emamoke Ogoro, General Manager, Brand and Communication at MTN Nigeria, has said that the redevelopment of the Obalende Bus Park on Lagos Island will be completed within 21 weeks.
Ogoro disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday in Lagos, following a stakeholders’ meeting convened by the Lagos State Government on the project.
He said the initiative aims to transform the existing Obalende Bus Park into a modern and well-structured transport hub through a public-private partnership between the state government and MTN Nigeria.
According to him, the redevelopment will be executed in three major components: the main bus park, a second bus park, and ancillary facilities, including a loading bay and a park garden.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Mr Sola Giwa, stressed the need to optimist available space to accommodate all commercial buses operating within the Obalende axis.
Giwa said adequate and functional facilities must be incorporated to ensure the project’s successful implementation and long-term sustainability.
“I recommend the constitution of a small technical committee to address critical details and ensure proper coordination.
“It is also important to fully engage transport unions throughout the project lifecycle,” he said.
The meeting was attended by senior government officials, including representatives of the environment, drainage, waste management and parks agencies, as well as the Ikoyi-Obalende Local Council Development Area.
