The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Niger State chapter, has confirmed that 227 students and teachers were abducted during Thursday’s attack on St. Mary’s Catholic Primary and Secondary Schools in Papiri, Agwarra Local Government Area of Niger State.
The Chairman of CAN in the state, Bulus Dauwa Yohanna, disclosed the updated figure in a statement issued on Friday by his media aide, Daniel Atori, and made available to ASHENEWS.
“I just got back to the village tonight. I visited the school, where I also met with parents of the children to assure them that we are working with the state government and security agencies to ensure our children are rescued and brought back safely,” Yohanna said.
“From our records, 215 pupils and students, including 12 teachers, were abducted by the terrorists. It is worthy to note that during the attack, some students escaped, and parents have begun coming to pick up their children as the school has been shut down.”
The CAN chairman appealed for calm, urging the public to remain prayerful as efforts intensify to secure the release of all abductees.
“I want to assure you that we are actively collaborating with security operatives, community leaders, and government authorities for the safe and quick return of all abductees. May the Lord grant quick release to those abducted and continue to protect His people from all dangers,” he added.
