Two men, Usman Muhammed and Ibrahim Inuwa, died on Saturday while trying to get a mobile phone that had fallen into a pit toilet in Kano State.
The sad event happened in Bazabe village, which is in Albasu Local Government Area. Both men were 40 years old.
The spokesperson for the Kano State Fire Service, Alhaji Saminu Abdullahi, explained what happened in a statement on Sunday.
He said the men died from suffocation inside the pit toilet.He said, “We got an emergency call at our Takai fire station from a man named Inspector Auwalu around 11:16 a.m.
He told us that two men were trapped in a pit latrine.”The fire service quickly sent a team to the location to try to save the men.
Muhammed had dropped his phone into the toilet and went in to get it, but he got stuck.Then, the second man, Inuwa, tied a rope around himself and went in to rescue Muhammed, but he also got trapped.
Both men were eventually pulled out, but they were unconscious. They were taken to a hospital, where doctors confirmed they had died.
The incident was reported to the local police station in Albasu.
