Dangote Peugeot Automobiles Nigeria Limited (DPAN), the official manufacturer and marketer of Peugeot vehicles in Nigeria, has taken a significant step toward reclaiming its leadership in the auto market. The company has commenced the assembly of the GT model of the Peugeot 3008, a globally acclaimed SUV known for its commercial success and award-winning variants.

The Peugeot 3008 GT, powered by a 1.6-litre high-performance turbo engine, expands DPAN’s existing lineup, which includes the popular 301 sedan and the spacious seven-seater 5008. Assembled at DPAN’s state-of-the-art plant in Kaduna, the new model reinforces the company’s commitment to providing high-quality, locally assembled vehicles for Nigerian consumers.

Premium features and cutting-edge technology

The 3008 GT offers an exceptional driving experience with features such as driver lumbar adjustment, massage seats, and a push-start ignition system. Its Bluetooth telephony function ensures hands-free communication, helping drivers comply with traffic regulations enforced by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

For highway cruising, the vehicle’s cruise control system allows drivers to maintain a preset speed without continuous acceleration. The premium GT trim boasts auto headlights, fog lamps, daytime running lights, a sunroof with a sliding function, and 17-inch alloy wheels.

Safety and performance enhancements

Designed with the Nigerian motoring environment in mind, the Peugeot 3008 GT prioritizes safety. It comes equipped with at least eight airbags, lane departure warning, an electric child safety system, and rear parking assistance with both graphic and audible alerts. Additional safety features include:

Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) – Prevents wheel locking during braking.

Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) – Helps maintain vehicle control and prevents skidding.

Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBFD) – Works alongside ABS to distribute braking force efficiently based on weight distribution.

Inside, the Peugeot 3008 GT integrates the brand’s signature I-Cockpit, featuring a 12.3-inch head-up display, an 8-inch touchscreen, and a multifunction steering wheel. Comfort is further enhanced by an automatic dual-zone air conditioner, a cooling glove box, and a high-quality CD/MP3 sound system with auxiliary connectivity.

Introduction of the Peugeot Landtrek Pickup

DPAN is also set to launch the Peugeot Landtrek 4×2, a rear-wheel-drive pickup truck designed for the light commercial vehicle segment. Featuring a robust 2.4-litre engine, the Landtrek is known for its ruggedness and durability. DPAN may later introduce the 4×4 version to complement the lineup.

According to Umar Isa-Kaita, DPAN’s Chief Commercial Officer, the company is in discussions with auto firms to expand Peugeot’s sales and after-sales network across Nigeria. The planned accreditation of dealerships aims to enhance visibility, availability, and customer support for Peugeot owners nationwide.

A commitment to Nigeria’s auto industry

Dangote Peugeot Automobiles Nigeria Limited is a joint venture between Alhaji Aliko Dangote’s Dangote Industries Limited, the governments of Kaduna, Plateau, and Kebbi States, and Stellantis Group, the parent company of Peugeot. The launch of the 3008 GT and the Landtrek fulfills the company’s promise made during the rollout of the 301 in January 2022.

Managing Director Ibrahim Isa Gachi, an experienced engineer in Nigeria’s auto sector, has reiterated DPAN’s commitment to reviving Peugeot’s dominance in the market. With the capacity to assemble up to 120 vehicles per day across two shifts, the company is positioning itself for sustained growth.

Peugeot, once the flagship brand of Nigeria’s auto industry from the 1980s to the early 1990s, saw a decline due to economic challenges and policy inconsistencies that favoured the importation of fully built-up vehicles. However, with strategic investments and local assembly, DPAN aims to restore Peugeot’s legacy as a leading automobile brand in Nigeria.
