A member of the House of Representatives representing Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency, Kaduna State, and Chairman House Committee on Sports, Ekene Adams, has passed on.
The lawmaker, a Labour Party (LP) member, died on Tuesday morning at the age of 39.
In a statement, Akin Rotimi, spokesperson of the house, said the lawmaker was a “dedicated public servant, passionate sports administrator, and kind philanthropist”.
He said Adams was a “kind and gentle humanitarian, loved by all who knew him”, adding that his dedication to the development of grassroots sports in Nigeria was “unwavering” and that his contributions to the house will be deeply missed.

Adams’ passing came less than a week after the death of Olaide Adewale Akinremi, a member of the House of Representatives, who represented the Ibadan north federal constituency on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Akinremi died weeks after the demise of Isa Dogonyaro, a member of the House of Representatives, who represented the Babura/Garki federal constituency of Jigawa state.
Dogonyaro died in May after a brief illness.
With his passing, Adams is the third member of the lower legislative chamber to die in 2024.
He was the former general manager of Kada City Football Club and Remo Stars, before winning the House of Representatives seat in the 2023 general election.
A former football player, Adams had served as the general manager of Nigeria Premier Football League side Remo Stars as well as Kada City before he won a seat in the House of Representatives during the 2023 general elections.
His sports background earned him the role of the reps committee chairman on sports despite being a first-timer in the green chamber.
