Bauchi State Council on Nutrition is working on modalities for a comprehensive multi-sectoral strategy on nutrition that will help in tackling the problem of malnutrition in the state.
The Bauchi State deputy governor and chairman of the Council, Auwal Jatau stated this at the inaugural meeting of the State Council on Nutrition held on Thursday in Bauchi.
Jatau said the council will take a closer look at the situation of nutrition in the state which will help in identifying challenges, and who are the key drivers to come up with an actionable plan.
“As a government we are determined to improve the nutrition and health outcomes of our people, Governor Bala Mohammed has made a firm commitment to strengthening nutrition policies and programs.”
The Deputy Governor noted that the Bauchi State Council on Nutrition is to serve as the highest policy-making body on Nutrition and related activities in the state and is to coordinate all efforts towards ensuring sustainable food security in line with the governor’s agenda as contained in his “Bauchi Project” volume 2.0.
Jatau expressed the state government’s appreciation to development partners for their continuous support and assistance towards addressing the issue of malnutrition in the state.
“I assure you that the state government is fully committed to providing the financial resources and institutional support needed to implement nutrition strategies effectively.”
The state’s development partners at the meeting include CARE International and UNFPA both of whom reiterated their support to the State Council on Nutrition.
