Niger State Governor, Abubakar Sani Bello has commended the efforts of the Victims Support Fund (VSF) Taskforce on COVID-19, for its emergency programme to cushion the effects of the pandemic on the lives of Nigerians.
According to a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Niger State, Mary Noel-Berje made available to AsheNews on Monday, Sani Bello made the commendation when he received members of the taskforce on a courtesy visit at the Government House in Minna, the state capital.
The Governor said the intervention would help in addressing some of the challenges the people are faced with while also supporting the health facilities in the state.
Governor Sani Bello then assured the team of the state government’s support in ensuring that the intervention gets to the beneficiaries.
Earlier, the Chairperson, Victims Support Fund Taskforce on Covid-19, Mrs Toyosi Akerele-Ogunsiji disclosed that food items and personal protective equipment worth N107.9 million has been delivered to the state as palliative measures to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and the vulnerable people as to compliment government’s efforts.
She said the taskforce on Covid-19 is an emergency response team inaugurated by the Chairman of the Victims Support Fund, Retired General Theophilus Danjuma to provide palliative measures to the vulnerable and IDPs across the country.
Mrs Akerele-Ogunsiji said that the Covid-19 taskforce have targeted beneficiaries of the items which, she said, have been profiled.
The items delivered to state include rice, beans, maize, vegetable oil, salt, hand sanitizers, surgical gloves, reusable face masks among others.
She said similar interventions were made in other States of the Federation.
