As preparations for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) gather momentum, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has reaffirmed that the use of Microsoft cameras for registration is mandatory and non-negotiable.
The Gombe State Coordinator of JAMB, Mr. Johnson Adebiyi, stated this during a working visit to El-Lawanti ICT Centre, Commercial Area, near Doma Hospital, Gombe, on Tuesday, September 30, 2025.
According to Adebiyi, the visit was aimed at assessing the level of compliance of the accredited Computer-Based Test (CBT) centre with JAMB’s operational guidelines, particularly the mandatory adoption of Microsoft cameras for registration, whose deadline for implementation was set for October 1, 2025.
He explained that the policy became necessary after the review of the 2025 UTME revealed that some CBT centres engaged in unethical practices such as image blending — manipulating candidates’ photographs to aid impersonation and other forms of examination malpractice.
Adebiyi urged the centre’s proprietor to take advantage of the new opportunities extended to all accredited CBT centres, which now include handling services previously restricted to JAMB’s Professional Registration Centres (PRCs) and Professional Testing Centres (PTCs).
He added that CBT centres stand to benefit from increasing partnerships with other examination bodies such as the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and the National Examinations Council (NECO), which have also adopted the CBT model for their examinations.
Reiterating the Board’s position, Adebiyi emphasized that the deadline for the mandatory use of Microsoft cameras remains sacrosanct. “Going forward, no other camera type will be allowed on the registration system,” he warned.
He advised the proprietor of the centre, Mr. Barde Usman Lawanti, to ensure full compliance, noting that JAMB would not hesitate to delist any defaulting centre from participating in future registration exercises.
Adebiyi concluded by calling for continued collaboration between JAMB and accredited centres to uphold the integrity and transparency of the registration process, stressing that maintaining examination credibility is a shared responsibility.
