A Nigerian startup called Meetbox Africa says that taking part in GITEX Nigeria 2025, held in Lagos, gave them important exposure, learning experiences, and chances to meet investors who could help their business grow.
In a chat with reporters, Mr. Kehinde Awoyinfa, one of the company’s founders, said the event was a great opportunity for young businesses to show they are important in today’s digital world.
“GITEX Nigeria felt like a mix of a classroom and a market. We saw startups, investors, and big international tech companies all in one place,” Awoyinfa said.
“For us, it was a time to learn, compete, and get noticed.”
He said that besides showing off their products, the team also met with Microsoft Cloud partners, internet service providers, and investors.
“Some of those meetings could help us grow our business in the next few months,” he said.
Awoyinfa pointed out that Nigerian startups often face problems like not having enough funding or access to bigger markets.
He added that events like GITEX help solve these problems by connecting Nigerian businesses with global companies, policymakers, and investors—without the need to travel abroad.
“For us at Meetbox, the event also showed that Nigerian companies can compete globally,” he said.
“At the expo, we showed off our video conferencing systems that work with Microsoft Teams and Zoom. But the star of our booth was our fun, robot dog called ‘K9 the Ultimate’.”
“K9 danced, shook hands, and guided visitors to our booth. It helped us stand out and start conversations about what we do.”
However, Awoyinfa said the best part of GITEX was being able to learn new things.
He said that panel discussions and policy talks gave useful insights, especially in areas like artificial intelligence, cloud computing, fintech, and cybersecurity.
He also said that events like this help Nigerian startups gain more confidence and visibility.
Awoyinfa believes Nigeria’s position as a leading tech country in Africa can grow stronger if more local startups keep taking part in global events like GITEX.
