A non-profit organisation, KEBRAM Information Technology, has trained 500 youth from Katsina Local Government Area with skills in Python programming and cybersecurity.
The two-day training, held in Katsina, was part of the organisation’s ongoing effort to empower young people with digital skills.
KEBRAM’s Chief Executive Officer, Arc. Kabir Kabir-Ibrahim, represented by Ishaq Siraj, said the organisation has been supporting youth development for over a decade. According to him, the firm has provided computer training and paid examination fees for students across the state.
He added that KEBRAM also runs a Cisco Academy, offering networking courses that have produced graduates now employed in Saudi Arabia. Kabir-Ibrahim explained that some of the newly trained participants would be selected after their examinations to advance into the Cisco Academy.
The firm’s Coordinator, Ahmed Salisu-Abdu, described the training as a philanthropic gesture supported by Katsina Local Government. He said the initiative would benefit not only the trainees but also their families, the state, and Nigeria at large.
“These are highly marketable courses,” Salisu-Abdu said, noting the increasing rate of global cyber-attacks and the need to equip youth with critical IT skills.
Some of the participants expressed appreciation for the opportunity. Abdurrahaman Ibrahim-Tahir, a sociology graduate, said IT skills are indispensable in today’s digital economy.
“I studied sociology, but IT skills are essential today. Without them, you risk becoming obsolete. I’m thankful the training was free,” he said.
Another participant, Asiya Tanimu, said the knowledge gained would help grow her businesses and enable her to empower others.
As part of the programme, five participants each won ₦10,000 in a quiz competition, while six others received ₦5,000 each.
