The National Biotechnology Development Agency (NABDA) recently launched a journal of biotechnology research aimed at advancing the frontiers of scientific research in biotechnology.
This is contained in a statement issued by Toyin Omozuma, Press Secretary to Prof. Abdullahi Mustapha, Director General of the agency in Abuja on Sunday.
Omozuma said the journal would also produce scientific evidence that guides policymaking in biotechnology utilization and development.
“As Nigeria strives to attain self-sufficiency in the development of biotechnology, the NABDA is championing innovation and research for national growth,’’ she said.
Toyin quotes Mustapha as saying that it was part of the agency’s strategic plan to make Nigeria a key player in biotechnology research.
Mustapha said: “We are elated to unveil a platform devoted to the promotion and dissemination of research findings in biotechnology utilization and development.
“This will not only simplify the groundbreaking work being conducted in biotechnology but also inspire future discoveries and advancements.
“The National Journal of Biotechnology Research will be an invaluable resource for researchers and stakeholders across the globe.”
He also said that with the journal, the Nigerian biotechnology research community now had a credible outlet to showcase their research which was paramount to finding innovative solutions to current and future challenges.
According to him, the journal represents a major milestone in the field of biotechnology research and development in Nigeria and provides a veritable platform to drive innovation, collaboration, and knowledge sharing.
“The areas of interest in the maiden edition included but were not limited to agricultural biotechnology and bioresources, risk management, bioethics and biosafety, bioinformatics, genetics, and proteomics among others.
”NABDA’s Journal of Biotechnology Research is an open-access online international journal, allowing free unlimited access to abstracts and full-text articles.
“As the field of biotechnology evolves, the Journal of Biotechnology Research will catalyze to bridge the gap between scientific discovery and practical application,’’ Mustapha added.
