The Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC) has issued a 60-day notice for the local government council elections scheduled for August 17, 2026.
This was announced by Nuru Abdulhamid, the commission’s Secretary, on Friday in Bauchi.
He explained that the notice complies with the Bauchi State Electoral Law, which requires notifying political parties, stakeholders, and the public in advance of the election.

Abdulhamid recalled that the commission previously issued a 360-day notice in August 2025, allowing ample time for preparations.
He advised political parties to conclude their internal preparations and adhere strictly to the Electoral Law and the commission’s guidelines.
“Detailed timelines, procedures, and other relevant information will be released in due course,” he said.
The secretary reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to conducting free, fair, transparent, and credible elections.
