The Director General of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Campaign Management Council in Sokoto state and former Minister of Transport, Yusuf Suleiman says the party would keep watch on the promise of President Muhammadu Buhari to ensure free, fair and credible elections in 2023.
The DG who spoke with journalists on Tuesday ahead of the kick-off of the party’s electioneering scheduled for Wednesday, also pledged to conduct rancor-free and issue-based campaign.
According to Suleiman, “President Buhari promised to bequeath a credible election, which means that he will not support any form of chaotic circumstance before, during and after the 2023 General Elections.
“This is important because this country should believe in the sanctity of lives and property. We as a party do.
“So, we will be watching to see if the president will keep to his words. Because there are those who think, because the Minister of Police Affairs is of the All Progressives Congress (APC), they can use him to cause trouble. We are watching,” he said.
Suleiman said Nigerians, especially those in the rural areas were facing difficult times with insecurity, adding that the APC administration has not enough to protect lives and property of citizens.
“We have seen nothing but failure because over 60 to 70 percent have left their villages because of insecurity. They cannot go to their farms and can no longer rear cattle; they cannot live peacefully in their various villages; they are killed; their wives are raped daily; we are not at peace in this country. Invariably we are a people under seige,” the DG said.
In the campaign, Suleiman said that “the party will focus on youth empowerment, sensitization on self-reliance and not to turn the youths as hunting dogs for undesirable politicians. Our campaign will send messages to parents on youths protection.
“Also, our selling points will be based on the developmental strides recorded by the PDP administration in the state. We have executed projects to run our campaign on,” he added.
Suleiman said in this electioneering, the party took cognisance of the needs of the people at the grassroots level.
“We have interacted with the people at the grassroots level in order to acquaint ourselves with the needs of the people and premise our campaign promises based on these needs. We’ll intervene on each local government based on their various needs having met with them and analysts their needs,” he said.
