A governorship aspirant of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Cross River state, Senator John Owan Enoh has collapsed his moves aimed at seeking perceived misgivings through court.
Bassey Otu had won the party’s ticket at the primary election. Dissatisfied, Enoh approached the Federal High Court which affirmed Otu as the authentic winner of the ticket.
Further dissatisfied, he went to the Court of Appeal, which also affirmed Otu’s victory.
ASHENEWS reports that while Enoh was planning to proceed to the Supreme Court to challenge the judgments of the lower and Appeal courts, the presidential candidate of the party, Bola Tinubu at an APC townhall meeting in Calabar, appealed to him to stop further litigation on the primary election.
In consideration of Tinubu’s appeal, Enoh in a statement on Wednesday, December 28, 2022, made available to newsmen announced that he would work for the progress of the party.
“The public appeal by the presidential candidate and national leader of our party is such a humbling experience that I cannot ignore under any circumstance. On this note, therefore, I have taken the hard decision to put an end to the litigation and instead work for the success of the party.
“The decision I have taken is a pointer for us to achieve a common ground and the ultimate lesson is to remind us that beyond our individual ambitions, we are one people with a shared history and common political destiny.
“I believe the strength of any political party in a fledgling democracy like ours is shown most clearly through the difficulties it can overcome and disputes it can resolve. I have accepted to swallow the bitter pill and work in harmony with the party for its victory,” he stated.
Enoh appealed to his supporters and other aggrieved members of the party to understand him by burying the hatchet while working together for the interest of the party.
“We cannot afford to go into the next election fragmented, factionalized, and disunited.”
