The Senate on Wednesday passed a bill seeking to prescribe improved salaries, allowances and fringe benefits for judicial office holders in Nigeria.

They urged the federal government, to redirect the focus of its negotiation with labour, from fixing a minimum wage to fixing a realistic living wage in line with current market realities.
Among those invited so far include the former Commissioner of Agriculture and Commerce, Manzo Maigari; former Commissioner of Budget and Planning, Thomas Gyang; Commissioner and Administrator of Zaria Metropolitan Authority, Balaraba Aliyu; present Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Mukhtar Ahmed, amongst others.
The committee, therefore, recommended the investigation and prosecution of El-Rufai, and some other indicted members of his cabinet by security and anti-corruption agencies for abuse of office through the award of contracts without due process, diversion of public funds and money laundering as well as plaguing Kaduna State into heavy debt.
Coming out from the meeting, the President of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Festus Osifo; and his counterpart in the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero, said “For now, we don’t have the power to call off the strike, tomorrow (Monday) morning, the strike will kick off as we take their (NASS) plea asking us to call off the strike to our various organs.”
The jury concluded that he falsified business records in connection to hush money paid to an adult film star, Stormy Daniels.
Justice Charles Wali gave the order in Suit No PHC/1512/CS/2024, brought by Victor Oko Jumbo, Speaker, Rivers State House Of Assembly, Sokari Goodboy Sokari and Orubienimigha Adolphus Timothy, on the crises rocking the legislative arm of the state.
The judge also ordered the EFCC to publish the interim forfeiture order in a national newspaper for anyone interested in the money sought to be forfeited to appear before the Court and show cause within 14 days why the final order of forfeiture of the said sum should not be made.
“The damage is one that would take the legal profession a long time to recover from. It is unfortunate and was totally uncalled for. For a country whose legal resources and expertise have for several decades been exported and positively impacted not only the African continent but the world at large, it is completely unacceptable that the processes of our courts would be deployed in the manner we have witnessed in the last couple of days, on a subject matter that is as clear as chieftaincy dispute.
