Actress who allegedly abused Naira notes granted N5mln bail

A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has admitted Oluwadarasimi Omoseyin, a Nollywood actress to N5 million bail for spraying the newly designed Naira notes during an event.

Recall that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arrested Omoseyin in late January after a video of her went viral.

The EFCC issued a two-count charge bothering on tampering and spraying the new Naira notes.Delivering judgment on Wednesday, the presiding Judge, justice Aneke admitted the defendant to bail and one surety in like sum.

The court ruled that the surety must be a public servant, with landed property within the court’s jurisdiction.

The surety is also to produce three years of tax clearance.

Adjourning the case until April 3 for trial, the judge directed the accused to submit her international passport to the court’s registrar.

The prosecutor, Mr. S.I Sulaiman earlier said that the accused contravened the provisions of section 21 (1) of the Central Bank Act, 2007.

Also according to the EFCC, the defendant, who pleaded not guilty had tampered with N100,000 new notes, by spraying and stepping on same during an occasion in the Lekki area of Lagos.

Omoseyin however pleaded not guilty to the charge.
