The Nigerian Technical Aid Corps (NTAC) has embarked on a mission to Sierra Leone to explore collaboration opportunities in key sectors to boost national development.
Mrs. Ojo Olubunmi, Head of the NTAC Information and Public Relations Unit, stated that the Director-General, Dr. Yusuf Yakub, led the delegation.
Olubunmi explained that the mission aims to strengthen bilateral relations, deepen South-South cooperation, and support Nigeria’s foreign policy goals under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
The visit aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda and highlights Nigeria’s commitment to regional integration, human capital development, and mutually beneficial partnerships across Africa.
Yakub also paid a courtesy visit to Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Technical and Higher Education, where he was received by Minister Dr. Haja Wurie and Permanent Secretary Mr. Mohamed Karbo.
Discussions focused on enhancing educational cooperation through academic partnerships, capacity-building, technical support, knowledge exchange, and human resource development.
Yakub reaffirmed Nigeria’s dedication to supporting educational progress across Africa via the deployment of qualified professionals under NTAC.
He described education as a key driver of sustainable development, economic growth, innovation, and regional integration.
The delegation also visited Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Health, meeting with Deputy Minister Prof. Charles Seusse and Permanent Secretary Dr. Phillip Karsho.
They discussed expanding healthcare cooperation through technical assistance, professional development, capacity building, and deployment of Nigerian health professionals.
Yakub reiterated NTAC’s role in advancing Nigeria’s foreign policy by fostering goodwill, strengthening African solidarity, and promoting knowledge transfer among developing nations.
He emphasized that the Corps continues to contribute significantly to sustainable development and shared prosperity across Africa and beyond.
A key part of the mission involved monitoring and evaluating 24 NTAC volunteers in educational and health institutions across Sierra Leone.
This assessment reviewed their performance, achievements, challenges, and the overall impact of the scheme.
Yakub praised the volunteers for their professionalism, dedication, and patriotism, calling them ambassadors of Nigeria.
He noted their service strengthens Nigeria-Sierra Leone relations and supports socio-economic development in the host country.
The delegation expressed gratitude to the Sierra Leonean government and people for their hospitality and ongoing support for the Nigerian Technical Aid Corps Programme.
