The Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS 2026) will support Nigeria’s aspiration to become a major player in the global Halal economy.
Aiyub Omar, Malaysian High Commissioner to Nigeria, gave this assurance in a statement on Thursday.
He said MIHAS 2026, projected to generate $1.13 billion in trade value, would provide an ideal platform for Nigerian exporters and businesses to showcase their products to the global market.
The 22nd edition of the event, organised by Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), is themed “Shaping Trust, Driving Resilience”. It is the world’s largest Halal trade fair and serves as a global gateway to the $3.5 trillion Halal economy.
The event, which will feature 14 curated sectors including food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, e-commerce, modest fashion and finance, is scheduled to hold from September 23 to 26, 2026, in Kuala Lumpur.
According to Omar, MIHAS 2026 responds to rising global demand for trusted and efficient trade ecosystems amid shifting supply chains and market changes.
“MIHAS 2026 is expected to generate $1.13 billion in trade value with 2,380 exhibition booths and participants from 45 countries,” he said.
He added that Malaysia’s Halal exports reached $17.23 billion in 2025, reinforcing its position as a key player in the global Halal economy.
Trade Counsellor at the Malaysian High Commission, Mr. Jude Dass, noted that eight Nigerian buyers and 21 from West Africa participated in MIHAS 2025 under the International Sourcing Programme.
Dass expressed optimism that Nigerian and West African participation would increase significantly at MIHAS 2026, possibly through a consolidated Nigeria Pavilion.
“We are hopeful of a sizeable Nigerian presence. This will allow direct engagement with Malaysian importers and facilitate market access into Malaysia and the wider ASEAN region,” he said.
