An Iranian-launched ballistic missile struck the Al-Udeid Air Base, the largest United States military installation in the Middle East, the Qatari Ministry of Defence confirmed on Tuesday.
Qatari defence officials said two missiles were fired from Iranian territory toward Qatar. One was successfully intercepted by air defence systems, while the other impacted the base southwest of Doha. There were no casualties reported in the incident, and authorities have not disclosed whether any structural damage occurred.
Al-Udeid serves as a critical hub for U.S. and coalition operations in the region, hosting around 10,000 military and support personnel and acting as the forward headquarters for the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM).
The strike is the latest and most high-profile attack in a rapidly escalating conflict that began on 28 February 2026, when the United States and Israel launched a large-scale military operation against Iran’s nuclear and missile infrastructure. In response, Tehran has carried out a series of missile and drone attacks targeting U.S. and allied military assets in the Gulf, including facilities in Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.
Qatar’s defence statement underscored that its armed forces remain on high alert and fully capable of defending the country’s airspace against further threats. Authorities also urged residents and visitors to stay informed through official channels and avoid unverified reports.
The episode represents a significant escalation in the Middle East theatre, intensifying fears that the conflict could widen and draw in more regional and global actors.
