The Zamfara State Government is set to vaccinate 1.4 million children against polio in a new immunization round across 14 local government areas.
The State Incident Manager, Dr Murtala Salaudeen, announced this during a news briefing on Monday in Gusau.
Salaudeen said the government had deployed 1,997 teams to ensure no child is left unvaccinated.
He noted that the campaign includes a unique strategy of giving noodle packs to vaccinated children to encourage participation.

According to him, 16 polio cases were recorded in 2024, with zero cases reported in 2025 so far. He emphasized that the vaccines are safe and effective in preventing poliomyelitis.
Salaudeen added that UNICEF remains committed to supporting the state government in its healthcare initiatives.
“The drive aims to consolidate progress in polio eradication, with stakeholders emphasizing the importance of vaccination in protecting children’s health,” he said.
Also speaking, Mr Isah Ibrahim, UNICEF Specialist from the Sokoto Field Office, reaffirmed UNICEF’s commitment to supporting the state government.
Ibrahim commended the Zamfara State Government for its giant strides in ensuring the wellbeing of its citizens, particularly in improving healthcare facilities.
