Zamfara state government has announced a special monthly medical outreach on Sunday in Gusau to address critical healthcare needs and improve the quality of lives of residents.
Sulaiman Idris, media aide to Gov. Dauda Lawal, stated that the monthly exercise would reach at least 1,000 patients with groin swellings; 200 Vesico Vaginal Fistula (VVF) patients and 1,000 cataracts patients.
“This is part of Gov. Lawal administration’s commitment to revive the health sector. The programme is designed to cover all the 14 local government areas of the state.
“The first phase of the medical outreach has already begun by providing free medical services to less-privileged persons.
“Beneficiaries included patients that required cataract extraction, groin swellings (hernias, hydroceles) surgery, VVF repairs and those needing health counselling,’’ he stated.
Idris added that the medical outreach had already treated 81 cases of eye cataracts and 49 cases of groin swellings.
“A strategy has been adopted to allow patients in remote areas to be screened remotely and to receive treatment at designated treatment centres at Gusau and Samaru.
“All special cases would be referred to the Federal Medical Centre, Gusau, for further treatment,’’ Idris also stated.
