Gombe State Governor Inuwa Yahaya has assured members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) of their safety, welfare and a memorable service year in the state.

Yahaya gave the assurance on Friday during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2026 Batch “B” Stream II corps members at the temporary orientation camp in Amada community, Akko Local Government Area of the state.

Represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Mr Yusuf Kwadon, the governor said the state government had consistently prioritised the safety and welfare of corps members serving in Gombe.

“I assure you that the Gombe State Government is committed to ensuring your safety, welfare and comfort during your orientation period.

“I wish to inform you that the government of Gombe State is taking steps to make sure that your stay in the state is memorable.

“As you serve our nation in Gombe State, I encourage you to embrace the diversity that exists within our communities.

“Use your time in Gombe to learn more and contribute positively to the development of our dear state,” he said.

Yahaya further noted that the state government was putting finishing touches to the permanent orientation camp to provide a more conducive environment for corps members.

Earlier, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs Nnenna Nwachuku, congratulated the corps members and urged them to participate actively in camp activities and obey all camp rules and regulations.

Nwachuku said a total of 1,370 corps members, comprising 676 males and 694 females, had been successfully registered for the orientation exercise.

She appreciated the state government and other stakeholders for their commitment to the welfare of corps members serving in the state.

“We are particularly grateful to Gov. Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State for the ongoing construction of the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp.

“This is a clear demonstration of his administration’s commitment to youth development and the success of the scheme,” she said.

The state coordinator, however, appealed to the Gombe State Government to consider increasing its subvention to support the feeding of corps members during orientation courses.

She also called for sustained monitoring of corps members across the state, noting that such support would complement the Federal Government’s efforts in providing for their welfare.
