A faith-based charitable organisation in the United States, called Victorious Grace Charity Foundation, says 900 Nigerians have so far benefitted from its free eye care and medicated glasses, food, and clothes.
The foundation’s Vision Bearer, Mrs Ngozi Kelechi, said this while briefing newsmen, during the foundation’s community outreach in Owerri, on Monday.
Kelechi, represented by the group’s Coordinator for the Eastern Zone, Mrs Gloria Onugwu, said that the beneficiaries were drawn from five different locations in the country.
Onugwu said the locations included Emii in Owerri North and Okplala in Ngor-Okpala Local Government Areas of Imo, Abakaliki in Ebonyi , Mowe and another location in Ogun.
She said: “This is a two-day community outreach in five locations across the country, with each beneficiary getting free eye checks, free medicated glasses and medicines.
“The beneficiaries, especially indigent women, received 10kg bag of rice and a wrapper each, as part of our charitable donations to humanity.”
The Assistant Coordinator of the zone, Mr Francis Ukachi, advised governments to be more practical about addressing the needs of the downtrodden in society.
An octogenarian beneficiary, Mr Martins Nwachukwu, thanked the organisation for the free health service and urged other good-spirited Nigerians to toe the same line.
Another beneficiary, Mrs Ngozi Oluibe, praised the foundation for its kind gesture.
A seven-year-old boy, Chidiebube Nwachukwu, who complained of irritation in the eyes, expressed the hope that his challenge would be effectively addressed.
Also, 93-year-old Mrs Chizoba Echefula, who got a pair of glasses, a wrapper and a bag of rice, described the gesture as “prayer answered”.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) learnt that the group also embarks on periodic outreaches to private homes, hospitals, schools and prisons, among others.
