Sokoto government has requested for the posting of more youth corps members that are specialised in medicine, mathematics and the English Language to be posted to the state.
Governor Aminu Tambuwal made the request when the Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Sule Zakari, paid a visit to Sokoto Government House on Tuesday.
He said that more manpower was needed to complement government’s efforts, especially with his administration’s emphasis on health and education. “We need more doctors and teachers of mathematics and English language. We have a shortfall in that area. Even though we will boost our manpower by employing more hands, the posting of the youth corps members will complement our efforts in that regard,” the Governor said.
According to him, government would renovate all lodges used by youth corps members in all parts of the state while a review of their allowances had already been approved. “We take the security and welfare of youth corps members seriously,” he added.
Earlier in his remarks, Zakari said he was touring all NYSC camps to assess their readiness for the ongoing camping exercise taking place nationwide.
He thanked the Sokoto government for prioritising the issue of youth corps members, saying it has boosted the morale of the youths and officials managing their affairs.
