The Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), Kogi Specialist Hospital (KSSH), Lokoja, has commended Governor Ahmed Ododo for implementing a ₦300,000 monthly allowance for medical doctors working in state-owned hospitals.
The President of ARD-KSSH, Dr. David Omeiza, made this known in a statement issued on Tuesday in Lokoja, as he congratulated the governor on his second anniversary in office and praised his efforts to strengthen the state’s healthcare sector.
Omeiza specifically lauded the implementation of the Doctors’ Intervention Allowance, noting that the policy was aimed at retaining medical practitioners and attracting skilled professionals to Kogi State.
According to the association, the allowance, which took effect in October 2025, has already begun to yield positive results, including improved patient care, better operational efficiency, and enhanced public health response in state-owned hospitals.
The ARD urged the governor to sustain his commitment to healthcare development, citing opportunities for further growth and system improvement.
The association also reaffirmed its readiness to collaborate with the state government to achieve healthcare excellence.
“The ARD looks forward to continued partnership with the Kogi State Government to establish the state as a healthcare hub,” the association stated.
Governor Ododo was sworn in for a four-year term on January 27, 2024.
In October 2025, the governor approved a ₦300,000 monthly allowance for medical doctors working in state-owned hospitals, particularly those serving in rural areas, as part of efforts to curb the ‘Japa syndrome’ (brain drain) and improve healthcare service delivery.
The allowance forms part of broader initiatives by the state government to strengthen healthcare delivery, including the provision of health insurance coverage for 76,000 beneficiaries, comprising local government civil servants, pensioners, and students.
