Residents of Gussoro/Zumba Ward in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State have benefited from a free medical outreach organised by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) flag bearers for the House of Representatives (Shiroro/Rafi/Munya Federal Constituency) and the Niger State House of Assembly (Shiroro Constituency), Dr. Idris Ibrahim Kuta and Samaila Ibrahim Datti Majelo.
The five-day outreach, conducted across the Gussoro and Zumba communities, provided beneficiaries with free surgeries for hernia, lipoma, circumcision and breast lumps, as well as treatment for conditions such as ulcers, malaria, typhoid, hypertension and other ailments. The programme also offered antenatal care and ultrasound scans for pregnant women at no cost.
Lawal Mu’azu, one of the programme facilitators, said the outreach was not limited to diagnosis and surgical procedures but also included free consultations and medications, all aimed at improving the health and well-being of beneficiaries.
The programme, titled “Hon. Samaila Ibrahim Datti Majelo & Dr. Idris Ibrahim Kuta Free Medical Outreach,” benefited a total of 605 residents. Of the figure, 402 underwent free surgical procedures, while 203 received other comprehensive medical services.
Speaking after receiving treatment, several beneficiaries thanked the organisers for the intervention, describing it as a lifeline for residents who could not afford medical care.
“We were told to assemble here for free medical services, and thank God I was scanned at no cost. Although I don’t know who sponsored this, I sincerely wish him the very best,” said Safiya Muhammed, one of the beneficiaries.
Another patient, who preferred to remain anonymous, said:
“The drugs were given to me free of charge. I did not pay a dime, and I am grateful to the organisers. May God reward them abundantly.”
Vincent Haruna, who underwent a free lipoma surgery during the outreach, also expressed appreciation to the organisers for the life-changing intervention.
The medical team leader, Dr. Idris Ibrahim Kuta, who is also the ADC flag bearer for the Niger State House of Assembly representing Shiroro Constituency, told ASHENEWS that the outreach was not a political exercise but a humanitarian intervention aimed at improving access to quality healthcare for residents.
“This is a humanitarian service. We’ve been doing this even before we started thinking about politics,” Kuta said. “Our people need this service at this time.”
He added that following the completion of the outreach in Gussoro/Zumba Ward, the medical team would move to Gwada to continue providing free healthcare services to residents.
Joy Baba Joshua, Officer-in-Charge of Zumba Primary Healthcare Centre, told ASHENEWS that the outreach had significantly eased the financial burden on residents who could not afford medical treatment.
“This project has helped many people by lifting the financial burden on those who cannot afford healthcare services.
“I referred a patient for surgery, but she was asked to pay a deposit of ₦1 million, which she could not afford. Through this free medical outreach, she was successfully operated on, and by God’s grace, she will recover fully.
“This exercise has also cleared the doubts of people who believed the Zumba Primary Healthcare Centre was not functional. It has created awareness and encouraged more people to patronise the facility.”
The outreach featured dedicated teams for antenatal scanning, medical consultations, pharmacy services, surgical assistance and welfare support, ensuring beneficiaries received comprehensive healthcare throughout the programme.
