The Anambra State Ministry of Health has urged residents to report cases of medical negligence, professional misconduct, extortion, and other practices that threaten patient safety across healthcare facilities in the state.
Commissioner for Health, Mr. Afam Obidike, made the appeal in a statement issued on Tuesday in Awka and conveyed by the Director of Medical Services, Dr. Ugochukwu Chukwulobelu.
Obidike encouraged residents to report incidents such as patient abandonment, refusal of treatment, unapproved health facilities, poor service, unhygienic environments, and drug-related issues to the relevant authorities promptly.
He stated that exposing practices that endanger patient safety and public health would promote accountability, improve service quality, and uphold higher standards across the healthcare sector statewide.
The commissioner reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to providing quality, safe, and patient-centered healthcare services in both public and private facilities, aligned with the vision of Governor Chukwuma Soludo.
“This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen accountability and uphold high standards in the state’s healthcare sector,” he said, emphasizing the government’s dedication to better oversight.
Obidike announced that dedicated reporting channels had been established to ensure quick investigation and resolution of complaints from the public regarding healthcare misconduct.
He assured residents that all reports would be handled confidentially and professionally, and that sanctions would be imposed if allegations were verified through investigations.
The initiative is coordinated by the Anambra State Health Facility Accreditation and Monitoring Unit to promote transparency, protect residents, and improve healthcare delivery.
The commissioner urged citizens to support these efforts by reporting practices that undermine quality care and patient welfare.
“See something, say something, save a life,” he emphasized.
Obidike highlighted that active public participation is vital to strengthening accountability and continuously improving healthcare services across Anambra State.
