The Zamfara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) has charged all trailer drivers who intend to convey all kinds of precious stones considered to be solid mineral resources across Zamfara state, to other states, to obtain the relevant documents from the owners of the goods for the purpose of security clearance while on transits.
The Commandant of the Corps, Muhammad Bello Muazu, gave the order while briefing newsmen and the branch leaderships of the National Association of Trailer Owners (NATO), AND the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) trailer branch in Gusau on M onday.
According to him, there are prerequisite documents that must be made available to Corps by trailer drivers conveying precious stones across the state.
These include “License to Posses and Purchase Minerals, Evidence of Payment of Royalty, Mineral Title if the solid mineral is coming from a legal Source, Agent Movement Permit and Mineral buying certificate.”
Mu’azu said the documents must be presented to the personnel of the Corps saddled with the responsibility of monitoring mining activities in the state.
He explained that the Solid Mineral Department of the Corps has been empowered by the NSCDC Act 2007 as amended to checkmate illegal mining and dealings across the Federation.
The Commandant reiterated that failure to present the stipulated documents, the driver and whosever that might be involved will be prosecuted and the truck and its contents confiscated by the Federal Government.
The chairmen of NATO and NURTW Trailer branch) Lawali Danda and Bashir Haruna, respectively commended the Corps, and promised to enlighten all members of the associations.
They also pledged to collaborate with the Corps by delegating members of the associations to work closely with the SMD unit of the Corps in the state.
They also assured the Corps and the good people of Zamfara State of good conduct and to jettison any form of protest that could jeopardize the economy and traffic flow of the state.
