Traffic Management Solution devices of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) captured 38,000 vehicles for various traffic offences in the second quarter of 2026.
The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, disclosed this in an interview with reporters on Sunday in Lagos.
Bakare-Oki added that the agency also apprehended more than 3,000 vehicles through physical enforcement.
He noted that physical enforcement targeted offences such as indiscriminate parking, failure to use designated bus stops, and other violations disrupting the free flow of traffic.
He also listed driving against traffic, illegal use of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lane, and failure to wear seat belts among the offences.
“LASTMA is moving from physical enforcement to technology-driven enforcement, and that is why we captured more vehicles with technology in the second quarter of the year,” he said.
He said court papers were issued to the drivers of the captured vehicles after sufficient evidence of traffic violations was established.
“After the court papers are issued, the cases are taken to the Lagos State Mobile Court, which has the sole right to convict or impose fines.
“Motorists who choose not to appear in court may complete a waiver form at LASTMA’s Legal Department, relinquishing their right to litigation after paying the prescribed penalty.
“We encourage them to appear at the Lagos State Mobile Court to be given a fair hearing,” he said.
The LASTMA boss urged the motoring public to be law-abiding.
He said a joint enforcement operation by relevant agencies is ongoing on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, following a directive by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu during the last monthly environmental sanitation exercise.
“The Governor ordered that all concerned agencies should clear the Lagos-Badagry Expressway. The agencies include LASTMA, Lagos State Waste Management Authority, Lagos State Kick Against Indiscipline, IRS Task Force, and the Lagos State Ministry of Environment.
“This operation started last week. It is aimed at clearing refuse, removing abandoned vehicles, and eliminating all other encumbrances on the road,” he said.
