ASHENEWS reports that the Sokoto state government has restated its commitment to ensuring the safety of students stranded amid the ongoing crisis in Sudan.
The state government stated this in a statement signed by Muhammad Akibu Dalhatu, the state’s Commissioner for Information and Societal-reorientation.
According to the statement, the students numbering about 120 will be moved after securing clearance and making necessary protocols and arrangements any time from now.
The statement said that the state governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal is in touch with the Minister of foreign affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama as the federal government makes plans to evacuate its students.
“Sequel to the crisis in Khartoum as well as the trapped of Foreign Students of different Countries, Nigeria inclusive, the Sokoto State Government under the leadership of Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, CFR, Mutawallen Sokoto, has taken all necessary action for the safety of Sokoto State Students and their subsequent return back home.
“Gov. Tambuwal is in constant touch with the Hon. Minister of Foreign Affairs over arrangements to secure the transportation and Security cover to evacuate the students to the nearest border as quickly as possible.
“The State Government wishes to inform all parents of the students that their wards are well protected and in good health and they will soon be at home.
“The Sokoto State Scholarship Board is also in hourly contact with the leadership of the state Students both under scholarship and self-sponsored in Sudan,” the statement said.
