Real Acts of Kindness (RAK) Development Foundation, a non-governmental Organisation (NGO), on Thursday inaugurated a two-room toilet and bathroom in Iragbo community, Badagry, Lagos State, to curb open defecation.
Addressing residents at the inauguration, Mr Mobolaji Ogunlende, the Pioneer, RAK foundation, said he decided to build the toilet based on the community’s request.
“In the 20th century it is unheard of that a community will not have a decent toilet facility where one can ease himself and also have a decent shower.
“Consequently, I decided to adhere to the request and within five days we have been able to build and donate the toilet to Iragbo community,” he said.
He urged the community to make judicious use of the facility.
“It is everybody’s responsibility to maintain the toilet, this is not about one person, it is about everybody, when you use it, make sure you clean it for the next person.
“It is a collective effort, if it’s not maintained, it is the community that will be at disadvantage and I am appealing to children that the facility is not a play-ground,’’ he said.
Speaking on the development, Chief Yemayinse Agosu, the Baale of Iragbo community, said he was surprised that within a week a two-room toilet was built by the foundation.
Agosu promised to supervise, maintain and ensure that his subjects make good use of the toilets.
The pioneer of RAK foundation was conferred with a chieftaincy title, the Henwa-Vovo of Iragbo land, for his services to the people.
Agosu also promised to name a major street in the town after the donor, RAK Foundation, over his contribution to the land of Iragbo.
Mr Mautin Genesis, former Sole Administrator, Badagry West Local Council Development Area (LCDA), said that an NGO, New Generation Forum which he belonged to went on inspection of the community.
“We discovered that the community lacked proper toilet facility and we reached out to RAK pioneer who graciously promised to build a decent toilet facility for the community.
“We are here to open the facility officially today and thank him for the gesture.
“It will go a long way in reducing open defecation in the town,’’ he said.
Also speaking, Mr Sulaiman Ikudoro, a member of New Generation Forum, said it was unbelievable that what Iragbo people had been clamouring for years back was done by the foundation within five days.
Ikudoro commended the foundation for this gesture and prayed that God would continue to uplift his hands.
The facility was inaugurated amid cultural dances and fun fair by the people to show their appreciations.
