The Oyo State Government has approved N5.8 billion in compensation for over 900 landowners affected by the construction of the Ibadan Circular Road.
A statement issued in Ibadan on Wednesday by the state Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Mr. Dotun Oyelade, said the money was approved by the state executive council during its weekly meeting on Tuesday.
The council noted that over N800 million had already been paid in the past 18 months during the first phase of compensation for displaced persons.
The commissioner said the compensation would curb agitations and misinformation about the Circular Road project, accelerate planning and development, and boost investors’ confidence.
“It will also realize the vision of a transformed urban development for Ibadan and Oyo State, as conceived by Gov. Seyi Makinde,” he added.
Oyelade also stated that the council approved N7.1 million for transportation subsidies covering March to August. In 2025 alone, over 4 million commuters—including pensioners, students, persons with disabilities, and other vulnerable groups—benefited from subsidies ranging between 50 and 100 percent.
According to Oyelade, Oyo remains one of the few states in the country that continues to support its citizens following the removal of the fuel subsidy.
“The Sustainable Action for Economic Recovery (SAfER), launched in 2023, has positively impacted the masses through food relief, health insurance, MSME support, and transportation initiatives,” he added.
The commissioner also said the council released N26.4 billion for the ongoing reconstruction and rehabilitation of the Okaka Junction–Otu–Igbeti–Kishi road and the construction of bridges over the Otu and Ofiki rivers.
“The council approved an additional N3.9 billion to expand this project,” Oyelade stated.
