ASHENEWS  reports that the Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a medical recorder with the Urban Maternity Clinic, Kofar Ran, Bauchi metropolis, for alleged culpable homicide.

The suspect, according to a statement issued by the commands Police public relations officer SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, was arrested by the State Intelligence Department (SID) on Wednesday following credible intelligence.

Wakil said the suspect was arrested while planning to kill his cousin and his wife.

The suspect, during interrogation, said he planned to forcefully inject the two with the suspected insecticide he filled in a syringe. After that cart away with their properties, the Police said.

The PPRO added that further investigation by the Police uncovered that the suspect had grudges with the victim for marrying his late elder brother’s wife, whom he loved dearly and wanted to marry but she rejected him.

The suspect confessed that he had warned the victim several times not to marry the widow but  he ignored all the warnings

The Commissioner of Police Auwal Musa Mohammed commended the effort of the intelligence operatives for their swift action.

Culpable homicide is a form of criminal homicide that is defined as causing death by doing an act to cause death, or to cause such bodily injury as is likely to cause death, or with the knowledge that he is likely by such act to cause death. It is a competent verdict for a murder charge because, barring intent, the elements of the crime are the same.
