ASHENEWS reports that the Niger State Governor, Umaru Bago has signed into law the 2025 appropriation bill of over N1.558trillion.
The governor signed the bill one week after he presented the budget to the state House of Assembly.
This online platform reports that the budget christened “Budget of Hope for Sustainability and Food Security,” prioritizes critical economic sectors, including security, agriculture, health, education, water, sanitation, infrastructure, social welfare, and environmental sustainability.
Key assumptions for the 2025 budget estimates included a projected N106.37 billion Annual returns on investment from agriculture, a N50 billion projected annual earnings from solid minerals as well as a proposed exchange rate of N1,500 per USD.
Speaking shortly before the governor signed the budget, the speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, Abdulmalik Sarkin-Daji maintained that the Niger State House of Assembly had ample time to review and scrutinise the budget as “even before the budget came, we already know what it will contain.”
He said that the assembly had interacted sufficiently with the Niger State Planning Commission before the budget was presented to the House.
In his remarks, the Niger State Governor, Umaru Bago lauded the efforts of the legislators for the expeditious passage of the bill.
Bago, who described the passage of the budget as unprecedented, added that the leadership of the 10th State Assembly has set a pace for the entire nation.
Bago, who pledged to maintain the existing synergy with the legislative arm of government enjoined the legislators to invoke the instrument of oversight, to ensure the Executive arm complies with the budget.
