ASHENEWS reports that the Federal government on Thursday inaugurated a 27-man committee to see to the review of the 2019-2023 National Youth Policy.
Ismaila Abubakar, Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Sports and Youth Development stated this while speaking during the inauguration in Abuja.
“The National Youth Policy, like other government policies, is the handbook of the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development’s guide on youth development as it represents the declaration of the Nigerian Government to the practical support it intends to give to its youth,”
According to Ismaila, the periodic review of the NYP guidelines is in line with the timeline set by the document.
“the policy itself stipulates a 5-year periodic review, hence the need for the commencement of this process,” he said.
He noted that the 2019-2023 policy document has aided the federal government in ensuring attitudinal change among young people, especially in the area of Information Communication Technology (ICT).
The review, he said would also allow the federal government to address the shortfalls in the last policy document.
Ismaila further urged the Committee to do a thorough job of producing a document in tune with reality.
On his part, the Chairman of the Committee and Director, of Education and Youth Development (EYD), in the Ministry, Kabiru Mohammed pledged that the committee would provide the federal government with the best policy document in the interest of the nation’s youth.
Terms of reference for the committee include overseeing the entire review process of the National Youth Policy 2024-2027 until its launching; ensuring integration of youth concerns from each geo-political zone into the final policy document; ensuring that the new policy is in tune with global trends, supervising the various consultations with stakeholders during the review process; as well as bringing up any
other activity that will add value to the process.
