The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Jigawa has deployed 2,350 personnel to provide security during the upcoming general election in the state.
The Corps’ Public Relations Officer (PRO), CSC Adamu Shehu stated this in Dutse on Thursday.
He said the deployment was in line with the NSCDC’s Commandant General’s directive to provide an enabling environment for the smooth conduct of credible and violent free elections in the state.
He said the personnel would provide effective and adequate security coverage across the 27 local government areas of the state, before, during, and after the election.
The personnel, he said, would be stationed at polling units, voting points, collation centers, INEC offices as well as other strategic places.
According to him, they are to also protect government buildings and installations, provide effective surveillance, credible intelligence, and monitoring against vandalism.
“The People, Personnel, Materials, and Critical Infrastructure (PMC) strategy, which entails protecting people (voters), personnel (INEC staff), materials (sensitive and nonsensitive), and critical National Assets and Infrastructure (government buildings, public utilities, etc) will strictly be adhered to and enforced in tandem with NSCDC Standard Operational Procedures (SOP),” he said.
Shehu said the Corps would work in synergy with other relevant security agencies for the smooth conduct of the election.
He said the Corps’ Rapid Response Squad would be stationed at the State and Area Commands for the speedy response to emergencies while Mobile and Static patrol teams would be mounted strategically at entry and exit routes to assist in the enforcement of restriction on vehicular movement.
“The command will not hesitate to apprehend anyone found culpable of fomenting trouble and violation of the electoral act”.
