ASHENEWS reports that the Cross River State police command in collaboration with local divers, have recovered the bodies of drowned medical students at the Marina Resort, Calabar.
Briefing newsmen at the Marine police base in Calabar, the Commissioner of Police, Gyogon Augustine Grimah, affirmed that three drowned bodies were recovered.
“As we are all aware, on Saturday, about two days ago, after 3 in the afternoon, there was an accident that was recorded at the Marina Resort here in Calabar where a boat capsized.
“Three students were drowned and we have not rested since that day, it has been rescue efforts day and night and this morning I am here and wish to let you know that the three bodies have been recovered.
“You can see around me, these are the locals that through their efforts, and doing a very marvelous job, have just delivered the three bodies to us right now
“When the bodies were sighted, our Marine Police raced to the scene, and with joint efforts, these bodies have been recovered and we are taking them to where they will be preserved for now,” CP Grimah said.
He further assured that due to the seriousness of the incident, all measures needed to safeguard lives and property in the area are being addressed by the authorities concerned.
It would be recalled that the Governor, Prince Bassey Otu had ordered the indefinite suspension of cruise operations as well as other activities at the Marina Resort in Calabar following the incident.
