The traditional ruler of Isolo in Lagos state, Kabiru Agbabiaka, is dead, Royal News has reported.
Agbabiaka is reported to have died shortly after observing the Eid prayers on Wednesday.
The Chairman of Isolo Local Council Development Area, Olasoju Adebayo, confirmed Agbabiaka’s death in a statement to journalists.
According to the statement, the deceased traditional ruler would be buried by 4 pm.
“I have the instruction of the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to formally announce the passing of the paramount ruler of Isolo Kingdom, Oba Kabiru Agbabiaka, Adeola Olushi III, today April 10, 2024. He was aged 64.
“He will be buried today by 4pm at his palace, 3/5 Akinbaye Street, Isolo, according to Islamic rites. May his soul rest in peace,” the statement reads.

Olasoju, however, did not disclose the cause of his death.
The monarch spent 20 years on the throne.
Nigerian traditional rulers often derive their titles from the rulers of independent states or communities that existed before the formation of modern Nigeria.
Although they do not have formal political power, in many cases they continue to command respect from their people and have considerable influence in their community.
Though their bearers usually maintain the monarchical styles and titles of their sovereign ancestors, both their independent activities and their relations with the central and regional governments of Nigeria are closer in substance to those of the high nobility of old Europe than to those of actual reigning monarchs.
