2022: Education, health top as Tambuwal presents N188bn budget to Sokoto Assembly

Sokoto state governor, Aminu Tambuwal on Monday, presented N188,429,495,847.63 as 2022 appropriation bill to the state House of Assembly.

The budget is lower than the current 2021 budget of N205,016,512,295.41 by N16,587,016,447.78, representing 8.1%.

In the appropriation bill tagged “Budget of Accomplishments and Sustainable Development”, education got the highest allocation of N37,006,032,670.92 (20%) followed by health which got N28,806,855,774.52 (15%) and agriculture, N22,551,438,538.42 (12%).

According to the governor, the recurrent expenditure stands at N75,871,203,284.34 (40.3%) while capital expenditure stands at N112,558,292,563.29 (59.7%).

The revenue projection is made up of N74,727,811,323.00 from federal allocation; internally generated revenue, N24,937,082,770.63; capital receipts from aid and grants N23,750,759,754.00 and receipts from capital development fund (CDF), N65,013,842,000.00.

The Infrastructure followed Agriculture with the sum of N18,176,537,119.57 which is the 10% of the total budget. The remaining sum of N81,888,631,774.20 is allocated to other expenditures and it represent 43% of the total budget.

Tambuwal gave the highlight of the provisions and proposals as follows:

a) Completion of Sokoto Urban Renewal (Township Roads), Drainages, Const. of Flyover Bridges, From Rijyar

Dorowa to Sultan Abubakar Road, From Dandima-Runijin Sambo Roundabout and Gidan Man Ada N1,610,000,0.00

b) Construction of Dual carriage way from welcome to Sokoto Gate-Shuni Town N750,000,000.00

c) Construction of Sokoto River Bridge and Dualization of Tashar llela to Road    Block N3,200,000,00.00.

d) Construction of 38KM Road D/Daji -Sabawa – Garba Magaji N600,000,000

e) Rehabilitation of Shagar-Tureta Road and Bridge N1,300,000,000.

f) Construction of Stadium at New Sokoto City N600,000,000

g) Construction of 500 Housing units at Gidan Salanke N700,000,000

h) Compensation for Lands and Property affected by development projects N1,500,000,000

i) Construction of Premier Hospital at Binji at N1,000,000,000

j) Construction of Premier Hospital at Sabon Birni of S/Birni LGA at N1,000,000,000.

k) Construction of Premier Hospital at Tambuwal at N1,000,000,000

l) Medical Equipment for Sokoto State University Teaching Hospital N2,500,000,000

m) Construction of Government Girls Science Academy Kasarawa N1,000,000,000.0

n) Construction of Government Girls Science Academy Gada

o) Construction of New Abdullahi Bara’u Secondary School, D/Daji N1,500,000,000

p) Re-construction of Sheik Abubakar Mahmud Gummi Secondary School N1,000,000,000

q) Procurement and supply of Furniture to Schools N500,507,992.00

r) Provision of incentives to poor and vulnerable household across the 23 LGAs to cushion the effect of COVID-19 under CARES- N914,400,000.00 (NG CARES)

s) Completion of ongoing rural water projects across the state including constituency projects N500,000,000.00.

t) Construction of Law School Campus in Sokoto at N1,000,000,000

u) Construction of Additional Office Block at Usman Faruku Secretariat N500,000,000.

v) Construction of Irrigation Scheme at Kebbe, Silame and Rabah N900,000,000

w) Construction of Earth Dam at Kaikazzaka, Tidibale, Goronyo, Romo, Tambuwal, Isa, Kahail and Yabo N600,000,000.

x) Drilling of Tubes Wells across the State N700,960,500.00 (NG-CARES)

Productive and Processing Assets N700,960,500.00 (NG-CARES)

y) Rehabilitation of Existing Farm access Roads N70,960,500.00 (NG-CARES)

z) Provision of Agricultural Input and Services N70,960,500.00 (NG-CARES)

aa) Purchase of Grains and others Foods items N700,000,000.

bb) Procurement of Water Treatment Chemicals N750,000,000.

cc) Provision of 500km rural roads in collaboration with world bank through RAMP Project

dd) In our desire to further empower youths and women in the state, we have made provision for the upgrade of youth and women development centers, work school and other empowerment schemes in the year 2022

Tambuwal said his administration will continue to take full advantage of the existing cordial relationship between the Executive, and the Legislature to fulfil its commitments to the public.
