ASHENEWS reports that the Niger State government has flagged off the 2024 agricultural inputs and assets distribution to farmers across the 25 LGAs of the state.
The intervention comes under the N-CARES, result area 2 scheme.
Speaking during the event on Wednesday at the Niger State Mechanisation and Development Authority NAMDA, Minna, the Niger State Acting Governor, Yakubu Garba said that the intervention will support 94,500 beneficiaries with agricultural inputs, assets, and small primary processing equipment.
Through the project, an additional 37,500 farmers will have access to improved agricultural infrastructure with 30 markets to be rehabilitated.
The acting governor while reaffirming the State Government’s determination to increase investment in agriculture noted that such efforts would not only boost food production but also drive agro-industrialisation, and provide employment opportunities.
Speaking further, the Niger State Commissioner for Agriculture, Musa Bawa said that 13,600 out of the 94,500 beneficiaries will be provided with tools and resources to boost their aquaculture and poultry enterprises.
He said that an additional 30,000 individuals from Internally Displaced Camps and flood victims will benefit from food assistance through the initiative.
The Commissioner also revealed that 37,500 farmers will have access to 173 Agricultural infrastructures which include roads, culverts, mini bridges, and solar boreholes among others spread across the 25 local government areas of the State while 13,400 farmers and processors will benefit from production and processing assets.
