I’ll Use Agriculture To Fight Poverty – Says Amb. Wali

The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Sokoto State, Amb. Abdallah Wali has said that if elected as governor of the state in 2015, he will use agriculture to fight poverty.
Speaking with Journalists in Sokoto on Saturday, he said that agriculture would be his main focus of developing the state as well as reverse the trend where Sokoto is regarded as one of the poorest states in Nigeria.
“Ninety percent of our land is arable. Goronyo dam can be fully put to use to service all farms and improve the fortunes of the people of the state,” Wali said.
He added that the same water from the dam would be drawn to other parts of the state to boost irrigation activities.
“Tube-wells and other irrigation facilities will be provided to farmers to boost food production in order to ensure all-year round food production,” he further said.
Wali stressed that the state currently faced the challenge of moral decadence in the youths.
“One of the main thrusts of my administration if elected, will be to build morality in the youths who are our leaders of tomorrow,” he said.
He added that he would give top priority to education, youths and women empowerment, as well as general welfare of the people of the state.
“Excellence will be pursued in all socioeconomic sectors in order to make
Sokoto state a model,” Wali said.
