The National Coordinator of Digisol Project, an international organisation, Prof. Chris Emenyonu, has advocated the adoption of modern technology by farmers to solve food insecurity in Nigeria.
Emenyonu stated this at a two-day workshop organised to train farmers on the use of modern technologies in agric business, at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) on Thursday.
He noted that the aim of the workshop was to train farmers especially in rural communities on the use and adoption of technologies to boost their production.
He said that adoption of technology would also help farmers to deal with climate change issues.
Emenyonu noted that the world is changing to the digital world, hence, it is imperative for Nigerian farmers to adopt these technologies.
Emenyonu said that Digisol project was working toward designing a technology software/application that would provide a lasting solution to farmers’ challenges.
He said that the organisation had gone to research to know the needs of the farmers in the rural area, and was designing technologies that would be suitable for them.
“The project is a bottom-to-top project, We have conducted our research with the rural farmers to know their needs and provide them a software that will be useful for them.
“With the technology, farmers will be rest assured that their produce is safe and sold to the right buyer without a loss.
“State actors should build more community radio to enable effective dissemination of news with understandable language among the rural farmers,” he said.
The FUNAAB coordinator of the Digisol project, Prof. Adewale Dipeolu , stated that the workshop would explore innovative technologies, share best practices and engage in thoughtful discussion.
