Nigerian Breweries Plc has restated its commitment to achieving net-zero carbon emissions across its operations nationwide by 2030.
The company’s Corporate Affairs Director, Mr. Uzodinma Odenigbo, disclosed this on Thursday in Lagos during a media engagement, noting that the move is part of efforts to promote environmental sustainability and responsible production.
Odenigbo said Nigerian Breweries has made significant investments in renewable energy solutions such as biomass, solar, and energy-efficiency projects across its breweries to reduce reliance on non-renewable sources.
“We are advancing sustainability outcomes through our Brew a Better World initiatives. Over the past few years, we have made notable investments in renewable energy as part of our transition toward net-zero operations,” he said.
He revealed that the company has signed multiple power purchase agreements with renewable energy firms and invested over ₦2.5 billion in projects aimed at cutting carbon emissions.
Odenigbo added that Nigerian Breweries is also investing in water-replenishment projects in water-stressed areas, citing the Olokomeji Reforestation Initiative in Ogun State, where over 300,000 trees have been planted to restore local watersheds.
Beyond environmental goals, he noted that the company continues to empower host communities through skills development and job creation.
Recently, Nigerian Breweries invested more than ₦200 million in skill acquisition programmes and in the construction of a cassava milling plant in Kaduna and Awo-Omamma, Imo State.
“We are committed to further reducing our national carbon footprint and advancing our long-term net-zero ambition,” Odenigbo reaffirmed.
