The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has delivered food items and medical supplies worth millions of naira to the Plateau State Government following the recent attack in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area.
Mrs. Zubaida Umar, Director-General (D-G) of NEMA, said on Friday in Jos that she was in the state to commiserate with Gov. Caleb Mutfwang and the people of Plateau over the recent gunmen attack.
Umar, represented by Mr. Adebiyi Razaq, Zonal Coordinator for the North Central Zone, stated that the agency also delivered relief items and medications from the federal government to support victims of the attack.
According to the D-G, the intervention is part of the federal government’s commitment to providing timely assistance to affected communities.
“This tragic incident has caused immense unrest, fear, suffering, and loss. We stand in solidarity with the affected communities and the state. NEMA remains committed to providing humanitarian assistance in times of crisis,” she said.
She prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured and comfort for bereaved families, reaffirming NEMA’s commitment to working with the state government to support recovery efforts.
Gov. Mutfwang, who received the items, commended NEMA for its support, assuring that the relief materials would be distributed transparently to those directly affected, regardless of religion or ethnicity.
“As a government, we always look out for the vulnerable and will not allow what belongs to them to be hijacked,” he said, promising the state’s partnership with NEMA to bring hope to those whose lives were disrupted by the crisis.
The relief materials, which included bags of rice and beans, cartons of spaghetti, vegetable oil, seasoning cubes, tomato paste, detergents, dignity kits, mattresses, clothing, and essential medications, were delivered to alleviate the plight of victims.
