The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) and a youth-based organisation, EKO 57 Support Group, are partnering to mobilize youths across the state to promote environmental cleanliness and responsible waste management practices at the grassroots.
The Managing Director of LAWMA, Dr Muyiwa Gbadegesin, said this in a statement made available to reporters on Tuesday in Lagos.
Gbadegesin said the partnership was mooted when he received the leadership of the group, led by social media influencer Adams Kehinde (Lege Miami) and Remilekun Oshodi (Remi Surutu).
He said the collaboration would expand LAWMA’s advocacy and sensitisation efforts across the 20 local government areas and 37 local council development areas of Lagos State.
Gbadegesin described LAWMA as one of the largest employment drivers in the state, with over 100,000 youths directly and indirectly engaged across its operational value chain.
He added that their energy and creativity remain vital to improving service delivery.
He emphasised that young people would play a strategic role in deepening environmental awareness and influencing positive behavioural change within communities.
According to him, LAWMA works daily to ensure a clean city and will continue to enlist the support of all stakeholders for the same purpose.
He added that the authority has been working closely with community leaders, community development associations, and community development committees to strengthen grassroots engagement, address service-related concerns, and encourage compliance with waste management guidelines.
Gbadegesin expressed optimism that the collaboration would further amplify community-based sensitisation and significantly improve environmental consciousness among residents, noting that the group is a strong grassroots movement.
In their remarks, the leaders of EKO 57 Support Group, Adams Kehinde and Mrs Remilekun Oshodi, commended LAWMA for the engagement.
They noted that achieving a cleaner and more sustainable Lagos requires collective responsibility and active youth participation.
