The Lagos State Government has shut down Dowen College in Lekki Phase 1 because the school was accused of breaking waste disposal rules.
The Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, announced the closure on Wednesday through a post on X (formerly known as Twitter).
Wahab explained that officials from the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps, working with the Lagos State Waste Management Authority, sealed the school for dumping waste carelessly.
This action came after a video posted by Wahab on Tuesday showed sanitation officials arresting a man who allegedly broke waste disposal rules.
In the video, the man admitted he worked for Dowen College. After more checks, officials linked the waste violation to the school.
Wahab said, “The waste was traced back to Dowen College in Lekki Phase 1. Ignoring the state’s environmental laws is not acceptable.”
He added that the head of the Environmental Sanitation Corps was told to seal the school’s premises immediately.
Wahab warned that the government would take strict action against any group or organization that disobeys waste management rules.
He stressed that Lagos must stay clean, safe, and healthy for everyone, and the state will continue to enforce the law without exceptions.
