Jigawa State Executive Council has approved the reviewed legislative amendments of its environmental policy in order to address critical environmental issues and promote sustainability.
The state Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sports and Culture, Mr Sagir Musa disclosed the outcome of the executive council meeting to newsmen on Tuesday in Dutse.
Musa said that the reforms included the Wild Animals Laws, the Bush Burning Law, the compulsory Monthly Sanitation Exercise Law and the Environmental Protection Agency (JISEPA) Law.
He explained that the reforms would reflect the administration’s dedication to environmental sustainability, through well-structured policies that inspired collective action and responsible environmental stewardship.
According to him, the council has also approved the sum of N421 million for the compensation of properties demolished at Gindin Dinya area in Dutse metropolis.
“The structures at Gindin Dinya were demolished as part of the state’s commitment to urban security and moral integrity in the state capital, with an aim to enhance security and improve societal well-being in the area.
“However, the Council further approved a waiver to control the cost of seeds, fertilizers, agro-chemicals, and labour, totaling to the sum of N112 million for 335 flood victims currently enrolled in the Jigawa State Rice Millionaire Project,” he said.
