The Niger State government has signed a five-year lease agreement with Gooda Plustech Limited to establish a plastic waste recycling plant in Buntu village, Tafa Local Government Area.
The agreement was formalized at the Niger State liaison office in Abuja.
A statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Niger State Governor Bologi Ibrahim said that Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago hailed the initiative as a significant advancement in the state’s Green Economy initiative.
Bago emphasized its potential to create job opportunities and bolster the local economy, particularly for grassroots communities.
He expressed optimism that the project would improve many residents’ economic conditions.
“This agreement not only provides an avenue for employment but also allows the state to benefit from carbon credits,” the governor noted.
He urged Gooda Plustech to set up plastic collection points in every local government headquarters across the state, enhancing accessibility for residents.
The Business Director of Gooda Plustech Limited, Christopher John, explained that the plant aims to collect plastic waste from the environment and transform it into finished products.
He noted that the metropolitan nature of nearby cities such as Suleja, Minna, Abuja, and Kaduna influenced their choice of location for the plant.
