A 24-year-old hairstylist, Ikechukwu Damilola, aka “Transformation King,” reached 90 hours of his 120-hour Guinness World Record (GWR) hairdressing marathon on Sunday.
It was reported that the attempt, held at the Oto-Awori Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in Ijanikin, Lagos, is being monitored by GWR officials.
Chairman of the LCDA, Mr. Kareem Abiodun, who is a sponsor of the event, said the marathon highlights the importance of youth skills development.
He stated that with 30 hours remaining, Damilola, who started on June 10, remains focused on finishing by Monday.
Damilola, a graduate of Lagos State University of Education (LASUED) Oto-Ijanikin, said his passion for barbering began in 2006 and that he has taught it in several schools.
“I am driven by the belief that wealth and opportunity can also come from skills and talent.
“Another source of my inspiration, after God, is the zeal to make people look good, because looking good is good business,” he said.
It was reported that the marathon attracted visits from state officials such as the Lagos State Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mr. Mobolaji Ogunlende, and the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Mr. Tolani Sule, among others.
The event also drew fans and continued to excite people in the beauty industry.
